Cascadia Health partners with CHESS Health to provide recovery support through Connections app and Contingency Management Solution

Recovery support app and contingency management program launched to help Cascadia clients in their recovery journey

Portland, Ore. – Cascadia Health, in partnership with CHESS Health, recently launched the Connections mobile app, providing an additional layer of support to individuals who live with substance use disorder. The Connections app provides Cascadia clients living with substance use disorder with 24/7 peer support, moderated discussion forums, crisis support, educational resources, virtual support meetings, daily check-ins, motivational content, and care management tools.

“Connections is an evidence-based recovery support app,” said Allison Brenner, Senior Director of Quality and Population Health at Cascadia. “This tool will empower our clients throughout their recovery journey, providing support no matter where they are or when they need it.”

In addition to the Connections app, Cascadia is launching CHESS Health’s automated contingency management (CM) solution, an evidence-based therapy that positively impacts substance use disorder treatment outcomes. Such interventions have been shown to improve medication adherence, treatment retention, and help people abstain from addictive substances, including methamphetamine, through motivational incentives.

“The contingency management solution provides an innovative approach to recovery, allowing us to customize rewards for positive actions,” said Tracy Winn, Senior Medical Director of Addictions for Cascadia.

Implementation of the Connections App and CM program were funded through grants from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and nonprofit health insurer CareOregon, respectively. The CM program will support Cascadia clients with methamphetamine use disorder. The Connections app and CM solution are currently being piloted. Cascadia will expand access over the next few months.

“Cascadia and CHESS Health share a mission of improving the lives of individuals struggling with substance use disorder,” said Hans Morefield, CEO of CHESS Health. “And through this partnership, Cascadia is taking an important step in leveraging technology to provide meaningful support and foster long-term recovery.”
