Digital CBT.
CHESS Health is the only digital healthcare platform using the CBT4CBT module, included as part of CHESS Health’s eRecovery solution to support individuals in recovery from drug and alcohol use.
Digital CBT is an evidence-based digital CBT program offering 24/7, on-demand access to digital training and resources that help patients build and reinforce coping skills. The digital CBT program benefits patients and providers and is available through a partnership with CBT4CBT, developed by Yale University. It provides educational and entertaining videos, lessons, quizzes, and other materials that are tracked on a dashboard, which allows healthcare providers to see progress. Individuals using CHESS Health’s digital CBT module have consistent access to supportive, reinforcing messages on their path to recovery, no matter where they are. The module is offered in English and Spanish.
A Yale study published in September 2024 reveals individuals with alcohol use disorder using digital CBT increase their percentage of abstinent days by more than 50% and are significantly more likely to employ effective coping strategies. In addition, other studies have found similar positive outcomes with digital CBT, including longer participation in treatment and greater likelihood of treatment completion, higher rates of negative drug tests, more days of abstinence from any drug use, and fewer days of substance use at 3- and 9-month checkpoints.
The late Kathleen Carroll, PhD, an internationally recognized expert in cognitive behavioral therapy, led the group at Yale that developed CBT4CBT. Prior to the most recent study, the effectiveness of the program was validated in eight randomized clinical trials. Support for the development and evaluation of the program was provided by a series of grants from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
