CHESS Health has partnered with a health plan organization to launch a program dedicated to supporting women aged 18 to 40 who are experiencing substance use disorder (SUD). The program addresses the critical issue of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) and neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) among newborns, conditions that arise from maternal substance use. With approximately 22,000 cases of NAS reported in the United States each year, this program focuses on providing resources, peer support, and wellness guidance to help women make healthier choices throughout their recovery journey.
Through this program, trained peer recovery specialists engage in one-on-one conversations, offering relatable support and sharing their experiences with SUD. These interactions create a safe space for women to discuss their challenges and successes, ultimately breaking down barriers to recovery. The program facilitates connections to healthcare providers, recovery specialists, and other support resources while also providing 24/7 access to the Connections app designed to enhance recovery support. This holistic approach fosters community and helps participants navigate their unique pathways to health and wellness.
Outcomes from the program have demonstrated a significant impact, including documentation of risk reduction, improved sense of support, and increased willingness to seek care and access treatment services.
